Access 4U was appointed to provide phased residential scaffolding for Stancliffe Homes at Wingerworth, Chesterfield. The scaffold package followed the construction programme plot by plot, from the first homes out of the ground through to completion of the development.
The access challenge
A multi-plot housing development doesn’t need one scaffold. It needs a sequence of them. Each plot reaches scaffold stage at a different point in the programme, so erection, adaptation and dismantling had to be planned around individual plots rather than the site as a whole.
That meant the scaffold package changed throughout the contract. As new plots came out of the ground, access had to be in place when the trades needed it and taken down when they didn’t, so the scaffold never became the thing holding the programme back.
Access 4 U’s approach
Access 4U worked directly with the Stancliffe Homes site team throughout. The scaffold sequence was agreed against the build programme and the package was adjusted as each plot progressed, so access followed the construction rather than dictating it.
Every Access 4U scaffold is designed to the guidance for its system: NASC TG20 for tube and fitting, and the manufacturer’s guidance for system scaffold. Anything outside standard arrangements gets a bespoke engineer’s design. Full RAMS and mandatory 7-day scaffold inspections are standard on every contract, and all operatives hold CITB/CISRS training and current CSCS cards.
Outcome
Access 4U supported the Wingerworth development from the first plots through to successful completion, adapting the scaffold package as the site progressed.
Following completion of the Wingerworth development, Access 4U was appointed to provide the scaffolding package for another Stancliffe Homes scheme: a new 37-home residential development in Darley Dale.
