Access 4U was appointed to provide phased scaffold access for two new detached timber frame properties at Fleur De Lys in Totley, Sheffield. The contract used a combination of Tube and Fitting and Layher System scaffolding to meet the structural and programme demands of a timber frame build.

The access challenge

Timber frame new builds move faster than traditional masonry, and scaffold has to keep pace without restricting the crane or the frame installation itself. At Fleur De Lys, the two plots required independent scaffold configurations because each structure progressed at its own rate, which meant the erection sequence had to be planned and adapted as each frame went up rather than treated as a single programme.

Working in a residential area added a further layer of planning. Deliveries and ground-level activity had to be managed carefully to avoid disrupting neighbours, and the site team had to maintain that discipline throughout the contract.

How Access 4U delivered the project

The scaffolding used was a combination of both Tube and Fitting and Layher System components. Tube and Fitting gave the design the flexibility to follow the irregular geometry of the timber frames, while Layher sections were used where the structure allowed for faster erection and higher load capacity. Using both systems on the same contract was straightforward as the frame geometry does not suit a single-system solution.

Full RAMS were prepared and issued to the principal contractor before any work started on site. The scaffold design was completed to TG20 compliance standards, with a bespoke TG30 design provided where standard TG20 charts did not apply. Mandatory 7-day scaffold inspections were carried out throughout by CITB/CISRS-trained operatives holding current CSCS cards. Inspection records were maintained on file and made available to the principal contractor on request.

Outcome

The phased scaffold access kept pace with the timber frame installation on both plots, and all work was completed without safety incidents.

FAQ

How much doe scaffolding for a new build in Sheffield cost?

Cost depends on the size of the structure, the number of lifts required, the scaffold system used, and the length of the contract. Access 4U will survey the site and provide a written quotation. Call 0114 299 7993 or use the quote form on this site.

Do you provide scaffolding for timber frame builds in the Sheffield area?

Yes. Access 4U has direct experience scaffolding timber frame new builds in Sheffield and the surrounding area, including Fleur De Lys in Totley. Timber frame construction moves quickly, so scaffold sequencing is planned alongside the frame erection programme from the outset.

Are you NASC registered and do you provide TG20-compliant designs?

Access 4U is an NASC member and provides TG20-compliant scaffold designs on all contracts. Where standard TG20 charts do not apply, bespoke TG30 designs are produced. Full RAMS and mandatory 7-day scaffold inspections are standard on every contract, and all operatives hold CITB/CISRS training and current CSCS cards.
